Default Question about skills

I have been learning what I can about this game. There is one thing I cannot seem to get my head around though.

Let's say I make a warrior/monk. I know I get a certain number of skill points, with more I can obtain, that I can spend on aquiring skills from the warrior pool or the monk pool.

But suppose I pick one and later feel that wasn't such a good choice. Can I dump that skill from my skill bank and get another one? Or am I stuck with it?

I know you can have 8 skills up at a time to use and can swap them out prior to encounters. That is not what I mean. I am talking about changing a decison I make about wanting a skill at all, whether it is loaded up or not.

Thanks to anyone who can help me understand this better.

Yep. You're stuck with it. You can't get rid of it and you can't regain that skill point or the gold you spent on it.

well i am still new to the game but i think i know what you are asking.

you have skills that your spells/skills are attached to. you can re-assign points in that skill so they are more powerfull if you decide you want to go with a different area to focus on. example ice or air magic. you can take points out of fire to dump into ice if you like that line of spells better. You do however still keep all your spells that you have bought. Those i don't think you can get rid of. you will have to buy ice spells to to replace the fire ones that you are not using.

I know you said you were using a fighter/monk but i was using the elementalist and a example only.

I hope this helps. i am sure others that are more familier with the game might add more to this and ilaberate more. sorry for my crappy spelling, i am too lazy to find the right spelling on some things.

It really isn't that bad. Lots of times it will be worth getting a skill and using it until you can obtain a really useful (to you) one later on. As long as you don't go getting every skill that you find you will be all set. Just get what you think will work best for you. Plus, you never know if they will change that "unwanted" skill later on and make it worth purchasing it way back when.

things.
are you refering to attribute points for reassignment instead of skill points?

you spend a skill point and it is gone and you have that skill

changing attribute points will affect the power of the skills that benefit from that attribute

marksmanship or expertise for some ranger examples

you are stuck with it but all that means is scrolling past it to get to the skill you want to use

NOTE

they are putting in place an option to change your secondary profession and to make gaining skills in that new secondary relatively painless

one of the statements was that with time a peson could have all the skills from all 6 professions

yes i was refering to the attribute points. sorry for the confusion.

The others are right in that you have skill points that you earn from doing quests/missions. those are spent on skills.

Here is my attempt at a concise explanation of attribute and refund points. Let me know if I'm wrong. I'm trying to learn more for the next BWE. I went through the last one (up to level 5) without allocating any points. LOL

Attribute Points
Your character will receive attribute points when leveling up.
Level 1-10 = 5 per level
Level 11-15 = 10 per level
Level 16-20 = 20 per level
Allocate these to specific attribute(s) to improve the skills associated with that attribute. Maximum points per attribute is 12.
Maximum total attribute points at level 20 is 200.

Refund Points
Your character gains 1 refund points per 250 experience.
Refund points are consumed when un-allocating attribute points. You can then re-allocate these attribute points to different attributes.

the 250 xp per refund point is correct as of the last bwe. and just to clarify, you only spend 1 refund point for every level of an attribute you decide to drop. dropping from level 12 to level 11 gets you 20 attribute points back while dropping from level 1 to level 0 only gets you 1 point back, but both cost only 1 refund point.

Thanks...that tells me how many and what kind but not really where to find the trainers. Other than the one or 2 they tell you about in pre-sear Ascalon..that you go to to get a quest and a couple of skills I haven't found anyone selling skills.
Also...I am always short of cash...what is the best way of building up your store of gold? I have been doing the same areas over and over, exiting and re-entering areas, then rendering down the stuff I pick up, but it really doesn't bring much cash.

for part of that have you read the road to level 10 thread/

as for gold i simply run around killing everything in site and salvage everything i can

one fun spot for experience is by ashford abbey

as you go out the gate head slightly to your left over the field with the wolves and worms toward the bandits fire smoke

keep the big rocks between you and them until you can mouse over them and get the red descriptions and use a bow from out of sight

when they shoot back they hit the rock and you can simply keep on picking them off one by one

repeat as needed
